I give you an exclusive interview with Erik Johansson, one of the best photographers and digital artists in the world. His stunning photographic manipulations and boundless imagination are the trademarks of this artist ahead of the latest trends.  I hope you enjoy it. Here is the interview, both in English and in Spanish.

Q: Who is Erik Johansson?
A: I am a 24 year old photographer from Sweden. My speciality is photo manipulations and I do both personal projects and commercial work. I love what I do.

Q: Which is your favorite tool to work?
A: I photograph everything myself with my Canon EOS 5d mark II, mostly with the Canon 17-40/4L and Canon 50/1.8. Photoshop is the software I use to put the photos together.

Q: Who is the perfect client?
A: An interesting idea to work with is more important than the money.  But the perfect client would let me decide about the idea and pay good.

Q: Who is your favorite artist?
A: There are many great artists that I like, e.g: M.C. Escher and Salvador Dali. My favorite photographer is the belgian photographer: Koen Demuynck.

Q: How do you decide on locations & subjects?
A: I have an idea in my head what I want it to look like, then I try to find the place that is as similar to it as possible. I get inspiration from almost everywhere, from books and magazines to things that happen around me.

Q: You have many creative works… which do you get the greatest satisfaction from?
A: I think that “Go your own road” is one of my most succecfull creations so far. But I think that I develop my manipulations skills all of the time and I hope to make something even better this summer.

Q: One thing to do before starting a new project.
A: I always have an idea before I start taking the photos for it. The ideas are becomming more and more important. In the beginning I realized every idea I got but now I just choose the best ones.

Q: What do you hope about the design world?
A: I want to become as good as possible of what I do, still I feel that I have a lot to learn and a lot of ideas to realize. I hope that more people can discover me and my work.

Q: What you never be?
A: I will never be out of ideas.

Q: And at last… Say something to the begginers…
A: Trying is the best way of learning, that is how I learned and it worked for me at least.

P: ¿Quién es Erik Johansson?
R: Soy un fotógrafo sueco de 24 años. Mi especialidad son los retoques fotográficos y hago tanto proyectos personales como comerciales. Me encanta mi trabajo.

P: ¿Cuáles son tus herramientas favoritas?
R: Hago todas las fotos con mi Canon EOS 5D Mark II, normalmente con los objetivos Canon 17-40/4L y Canon 50/1.8. Para organizarlas uso el Photoshop.

P: ¿Cómo es el cliente perfecto?
R: Es más importante que un proyecto sea interesante que el dinero; aunque el cliente perfecto me daría libertad creativa y pagaría bien.

P: ¿Quién es tu artista favorito?
R: Hay muchos que me gustan, como M.C. Escher y Salvador Dalí. Mi fotógrafo favorito es el belga Koen Demuynck.

P: ¿Cómo decides dónde hacer las fotos y el tema?
R: Primero imagino cómo quiero que sea, después intento buscar un lugar que se parezca lo máximo posible. Encuentro inspiración en casi todo, desde libros y revistas a las cosas que suceden a mi alrededor.

P: Tienes muchos trabajos creativos, ¿de cuál estás orgulloso?
R: Creo que “Go your own road” is una de mis mejores creaciones hasta la fecha. Pero creo que estoy en constante evolución, así que espero hacer algo incluso mejor este verano.

P: Algo que hagas siempre antes de empezar un proyecto.
R: Siempre tengo una idea antes de empezar a hacer las fotos, las ideas son cada vez más importantes. Al principio hacía todo lo que se me ocurría, pero ahora sólo elijo las mejores ideas.

P: ¿Qué esperas del mundo del diseño?
R: Quiero ser todo lo bueno que pueda llegar a ser en esto, pero considero que aún me queda mucho por aprender y que todavía tengo muchas ideas que llevar a cabo. Espero que más gente pueda descubrirme a mí y a mi trabajo.

P: Algo que nunca pasaría.
R: Que se me agotasen las ideas.

P: Para terminar, dile algo a los que están empezando
R: La mejor manera de aprender es probando cosas distintas, así es como aprendí yo y al menos a mí me ha funcionado.
